What the hell is wrong with some people?

My mom works at Wal-Mart. Yesterday they had a Code Adam that lasted longer than the usual 3 minutes. (Usually once the kids hear "Code Adam" over the PA they get scared and run to an employee.) It lasted almost an hour. The sad/surprising thing, though is in the details.

To make a long story short: Dad puts 6yo kid on horse thing in the entry and says to strangers "Hey... I have to go to the restroom, could you watch my kid?" While stranger is watching kid, mom comes and takes the kid. Stranger leaves as mom heads next door to Lowes. Dad comes out and sees the kid missing, tells an employee, who calls a Code Adam.

The police are called. The first thing they do is call Lowes, and have them page the mom. She didn't answer the pages, because she didn't feel like it. (!!!) In the mean time, employees are going through trash looking for clothes, the store is locked down, and a huge line is forming outside, while most customers are helping look for this kid.

Finally the police decide to go to Lowes and ask them to lock down. The Wal-Mart GM goes with them, and is about to have a nervous breakdown. The police search Lowes and find the kid and mom. The mom then proceeds to SCREAM, RANT and RAVE at the Wal-Mart GM!!! The only thing that made this moron stop was the police telling her she might end up in jail for inciting a riot. Turns out the dad might end up in jail for child endangerment, too.

People called back all night last night to make sure they found the kid. How very sad for him that complete strangers care more about him than his own parents.
